Time to adjust
Often times businesses fail because of change and their unwillingness to adapt. in chp 9 of the social organization it talks about businesses making adjustments to changes. From my own personal experience I know it's hard to adjust to changes. People get comfortable doing what works for them and don't try to take any risks or change up the way they do things. Most businesses are this way too. They have a way they do things and don't change even if it's needed and often times this causes them to fail. They believe if they way the started things is working why change it ? A small business I work for only accepts cash, this causes a lot go aggravated customers who only carry a card around with them. In today's worled most people don't even keep cash on them anymore, instead of adapting to this the business chose to stay with what they know, cash only. the business is still successful but if they adjusted to this change the amount of people walking out the door unsatisfied with the business would be a lot less.

I come from a small town that has many small businesses, and many of them only take cash. It is such a weird change when I go home and I have to carry cash if i want to go into town. It is true that businesses have to change if they want to stay afloat, but it is a little different in a small town because people dont have the options they have in larger cities.
ReplyDeleteThis post is very interesting. I am used to every place around my home accepting credit. I guess it really depends on the customer market. If they are located in a pretty remote area and do not get many outsiders, then the business is more prone to only accepting cash. Thats how you know if your really from a small town!
ReplyDeleteI really liked this post. I also work at a smaller business and although the do accept payments other than cash they seem to stick to their old ways. Often times I will propose an idea to my boss or upper management but they reply to it saying "well this si how we've been doing it for 30+ years." It is very frustrating when something, especially some businesses stick to their same old ways.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right when you say people get comfortable doing what works and become stuck in their ways until its too hard to change.
